What’s the Use? An Event Without Purpose

A time in my life when I had to do something that seemed like it had no purpose was when I had to wash my shoes.  It was on a weekend and I had to go to my girlfriend’s party and I had to wash my shoes because they were really dirty and I didn’t have any other ones.  I kept washing my shoes in a rush because time was against me.  I had a lot pressure because the party was going to start at 7 pm and I had to be there 5 minutes before it started, since I was going to take her the food, which were pizzas.  I was doing it as fast as I could but time beat me and got there really late even though I tried hard.

Society of Others Ch. 1

 

I think it is possible for two opposite statements to be true for example when I say “I love myself when I do the right things” and “I hate my self when I do wrong things” are two true things about me.  In Chapter one of the story Society of Others, I think the narrator’s point of view is true because we are just buying and selling stuff to each other then we decide that we want something else that is better and so on.  I agree that the narrator simply see things as they are because is true but maybe he should be more positive and stop being so negative.  There were many statements that the narrator pointed out that I totally disagree, but also some that I do agree with.  For example, I agree that nature is selfish and all creatures kill to survive.  I agree that Love is a mechanism to propagate the species.  I disagree that beauty is a trick that fades because beauty is always in the inside for example feelings and emotions so it never fades.  Friendship is an arrangement for mutual advantage is false because friendship is about caring for each other.  Goodness is not rewarded, and evil is not punish is a false statement because goodness is always rewarded with something good and evil is punished by getting rid of it.  Religion is superstition is also a wrong statement because religion is a belief.  Death is annihilation is also not true because I believe this is the moment when we get to live with god.  Finally, if god exists at all he stopped caring for human kind is a very wrong statement in my opinion because I believe that everything bad happened because that’s how he destined to be.  In the story, I disagree with the narrator’s point of view about school because you have to go to school in order to get an education and do something important in life, he just didn’t care.  When the narrator says, “I tell him the thing about a mountain is when you’re on it you don’t see it. You need to be far away to see the mountain” maybe means that you don’t see things clearly when they happen, but once you are having problems you see everything.  When the narrator says, “Getting what you want is to be avoided at all costs” might be that he is talking about how excitement fades away when you get what you want.  I don’t think the narrator has a good relationship with his parents because he don’t listen to them he just wants to be alone while his whole family wants him to do something productive  with his life.  I don’t think the narrator has a good relationship with his girlfriend Am either because he is selfish like he wouldn’t solve their problem if there were any and he just wants her mostly for sex.  I would describe the author’s attitude as ignorant because he doesn’t care about anything in life, but he is right to feel the way he does because everybody is different and have their own free will to do whatever they want.  I believe that the narrator’s point of view about life is kind of negative.  For example when he said “first thoughts are usually lies”.  I think this means that what he thinks is right at first, it comes out to be wrong.  This relates to existentialism in a way that everything in life ends up wrong in the end.  Another example is when he said “I don’t even want money”.  He thinks that money means nothing to him and he can be without it.  This relates to existentialism because you don’t need money to live.  Last, he said “Nothing.  I’m tired by nothing.  Nothing exhausts me.”  He feels tired that he can do nothing in life because it doesn’t matter for him anyway.  This relates to existentialism because you could live life without doing nothing productive.      

 

 

Meaning for Life

Many existentialists believe in absurdism or the belief that life is absurd.  For me, Life is not absurd because we are here to live life, experience, learn, enjoy, be happy and leave a good example for future generations.  For example, I get an education everyday by going to school and it helps me to live my life in a good way.  I think life does have a purpose which is to live it the best way possible and make the best out of it because if not then nothing would matter.  For example, we can decide to live life in whatever way we want, you can live in a positive or negative way, is in every individuals decision.  I don’t think there was a purpose to life before I got here because nobody knows how we got here; we create our own purpose to life when we are living it.  For example, my personal goal is to be the best person I can be, helping the environment, volunteering, etc.  I don’t think that you will wake up one morning and just know your purpose to life, the best thing you can do is to set a high personal goal to yourself.  Without a purpose or meaning to life I think that there could still be or not be a reason to live because people should just do what they feel like doing.  For example, someone might think there is no meaning or purpose to life but they might still have a reason to live maybe for the people they love or they may just live life day by day depending on what their issue is.  It does matter if whether or not there is a god or some higher all-powerful all-knowing force that created and controls the universe because I believe god is the one that gives us strength to keep us going on with our everyday life.  For example, I pray to god everyday so he can help me achieve my goals and to give me strength to continue with my life.  Questions about death or anything related to it are the questions that nobody knows, but I believe that when we die we unite with god because that’s what I been taught by family and church.  For example, there has been many proofs about this, like no dead men has come to resurrection and told us what he experienced.  If I knew I was never going to die one day, I would probably live my life different because it wouldn’t matter what I did with my life and I would never have to worry about death.  For example, I would do whatever I want and would be happy forever with no evil ever bothering me.  I believe it is possible to create our own meaning for life because you can create your own way to live your life and just work for it.  For example, I can make my life as happy as possible depending on my path and the things that I do.  If I could create my own meaning or purpose to life it would be to be loved, succeed, and obtain everything I want.  For example, I would have everything I desire and would have no struggles at all.

What is Truth?

I define true as information or something that has been proven and also been verified that it is right.  I believe that to know if something is true you just have to listen to your heart.  Nothing can be definitely determine if it’s true because truth cannot be known, you could just search for it or create it.  In think that the difference between opinion, belief and knowledge is that opinion is just your belief, what you believe is true is just a reality and knowledge is what you learn out of it.  I believe we can trust what our minds tells us what’s true more than our guts because true is based on what yourself is telling you it’s true not just an instinct.  For example, when I have to do my homework I do it because myself tells me I have to do it in order for me to improve, I don’t do it by an instinct.

 

The Purpose of Life

Philosophy is important because it makes you think about the mysterious questions about the world that someday there might be an answer for it.  I think I am a philosopher because I wonder about the mysterious questions that are in this world and I come up with my own thoughts since there is no wrong or right answer.  I believe the most important thing in my life is being happy and enjoying every moment of it because if you are not happy wonderful things will not happen to you or your life would be so sad.  I believe we are on earth because that’s the place god wanted to create us or that’s just the place where somehow we appeared and evolved.  I believe the purpose of life is to be loved, love others, be happy, and enjoy every second of it.  I believe this because this is what motivates me to live and love the ones I know everyday.  I think its important to have a purpose in life because if not, everyone wouldn’t like each other and this world would be horrible with everyone hating each other like if they were enemies.  I do believe there is life after death which is like a dream with god where you are resting in peace and everything is love because that’s what I’ve been believing or how I’ve been thought since I was  kid.  I think it is really important to know his because that way people wouldn’t have to be afraid of dying and it will make it easier to live day by day without any worries about it.  I think there is no right way to live your life, which depends on every individual, however they want to live it, and what they produce out of it.  I live my life in the middle of the rabbit’s hair because I don’t think I am so adventurous but I am not so doll either.  I think the top hat represents life, the rabbit how someone lives life, and the magician is what they make out of it like their accomplishments

The Biggest Questions

How did the human life start?

This question is interesting to me because I would like to know how everything really started and if there was and actual god that created us.  If I knew the answer to this question it would make me appreciate the process of being born because life is a gift from god and without a life there would be no world.  There are different answers or theories to this question from religions and scientists but I don’t know if there is really an answer, I think it’s just what you believe.

Is the human race the most intelligent creature in the whole universe?

This question is so important to me because if there is a more intelligent species than us its frightening to know that there is a more advanced creature living.  If I knew the answer to this question would scare me because what if they create an out of this world advance weapon to attack humans.  There is no actual answer to this question but there has been records about aliens that had been to earth.

Is there an afterlife?

This question is so important to me because I would like to have a continuation of my life.  By knowing the answer to this question would be a miracle or a disaster for me because I do believe there is one god and if there is no god then there is no afterlife I guess.  It would also be like starting at the end for a whole new beginning.  There is no right answer to this question and it has never been proven.
